Hideaway Beach at Perfect Day at Cococay

The Hideaway Beach Club is an adults-only area located on an isolated side of Cococay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas.  It was debuted in late January of 2024 around the same time as the inauguration of Icon of the Seas.  Before going to the beach club on our last cruise, I didn’t know that much about the place.  I just knew that I was excited about giving an adults-only area on CocoCay a try (there were a lot of kids on our ship- including our own, lol).

To get to Hideaway Beach, you find the dedicated tram at CocoCay, located next to the regular tram that goes around the island.  The tram takes you directly to the beach club entrance and then will make a further stop for the fancy cabanas before heading back to the main tram stop.  Upon entering, I immediately found a bar pavilion overlooking the beach.  The beach was filled with plenty of loungers to grab.  We arrived right at 10am and there was still plenty of open beach chairs.  As I waited for the rest of my crew to arrive, I discovered the pool, which was HEATED.  This was a huge improvement over the, at times, freezing Oasis Lagoon Pool.  Just like the Oasis Lagoon Pool, it had a swim up bar, a zero entry area and little alcoves to hang around in.  Unlike the Oasis Lagoon pool, the Hideaway beach pool had tables in the water that you could sit around, floating inflatable games, such as beer pong and table tennis, and an infinity pool edge.  To me, the pool itself was the worth the price tag for us.

Another aspect to the area that we were anxious to check out was the food available at Hideaway Beach.  And, we were not disappointed.  There were two different areas that you could eat at: A Slice of Paradise and The Hideaway Hut.  A Slice of Paradise had four different kinds of pizza that you could choose from (Cheese, Pepperoni, a Barbecue Chicken and a Seafood pizza).  You could also order three different kinds of Empanadas (Chicken, Beef and Apple).  We, of course, tried both kinds of unusual pizza and all 3 empanadas.  We were really impressed with everything, and Chris, who is a Sorrentos expert, says that the pizza was slightly better than what you can find at Sorrentos.  We especially enjoyed the apple empanada and would have gotten another except for we had our eyes set on The Hideaway Hut and their brownie.  The Hideaway Hut had all of the great things that you find at the Snack Shack plus a handful of additional items, including Coconut Shrimp, Ceviche and a Fish sandwich.  With the exception of the fish sandwich, we tried all of the new to us items and we really enjoyed them all.  And, they had a soft serve machine right next to the Hideaway Hut so I was easily able to turn the brownie into a brownie sundae.  In my opinion, the food at Hideaway Beach did add to the value of the ticket price, and one thing I appreciated was that there were no extra cost food items, like those you can find at the Skipper’s grill.  Everything was included and everything was really tasty.

One thing that I was nervous about with Hideaway Beach was the vibe.  I had read that if you were looking for something more chill that Hideaway Beach might not be your first choice.  I had heard that it could be quite lively with a happening DJ and high energy crowd so I wasn’t really sure if it would suit us and my mother-in-law.  There was a DJ and he was playing some fun tunes but the volume level was not so loud that we couldn’t have a conversation.  There were groups of people playing games and having a fun time, but it was totally okay for us to just hang out and chill.  As I said, the pool was so nice and big that there was enough room and vibe for us to hang in whatever way we chose.

The price of an all day pass to Hideaway Beach varies from $40 all the way to as much as $100, maybe more.  Our group couldn’t agree on how much would be the maximum that we would pay for a day at Hideaway Beach ($50- $75- $85), but we definitely felt that it was worthwhile to a point.  We were at Hideaway Beach for almost 4 hours and then we were ready to head back to a more quiet ship.  If the price was right, we would book another day at Hideaway Beach, but it was pointed out that the same good food, 18+ vibe, and nice amenities (minus the heated pool) could be available to you at Virgin Voyages’ Beach Club at Bimini at no extra cost.

What do you think? Does this sound like something that you might want to do to get away from the kiddos and have an elevated chill and fun time while at Cococay?
